The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service needed redesigns for their annual fact sheets for their Migratory Bird Joint Ventures and San Francisco Bay Joint Venture programs. These materials were to be presented to members of congress, their staffers, state legislators, and the Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, D.C. for the Joint Venture Fly-In convention in March.

The goal of the new fact sheets were to improve upon the previous designs while remaining informative and memorable. What resulted were dynamic and eye-catching layouts that highlight the vision, conservation work, and solutions that these programs provide.

Migratory Bird Joint Ventures leverages funds from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act into on-the-ground conservation action to bolster wildlife habitat, working lands management, and local community resilience.

I modeled their fact sheet after the MBJV website, using similar fonts and colors for consistency and brand recognition. To improve on the overall design, I used columns for easier readability, as congress staffers go through hundreds of documents a week. To tie the design together, I used a dramatic hero image of playa restoration at the bottom of the page with the sky fading into the content above. Last year's design is pictured at the bottom of this project section for comparison.

Alisa was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. She understood our needs, patiently waited and worked with us as we navigated some administrative barriers, and then quickly created several appealing design options for us and worked with us to refine our final selection, all on a compressed timeline due to the aforementioned administrative barriers. I look forward to opportunities to work together in the future!

The San Francisco Bay Joint Venture protects and restores wetland habitats throughout the SF Bay for the benefit of birds, fish, and other wildlife. SFBJV also needed a redesign for their annual fact sheet as well as a funding request (confidential).

The goals of the new fact sheet were to be easily skimmed by busy congresspeople and staffers, and to have a fresh new look from the previous year's design. SFBJV is the only urban Joint Venture and the smallest, so we needed to make a great impact with this new design.

I integrated fonts and colors from SFBJV's recently updated website into the four-page fact sheet to stay consistent with their visual branding. The team had shortened their copy from last year's document, so I used that as an opportunity to showcase a beautiful photo they provided of Middle Harbor Park in West Oakland.

For the back page, I created a clean layout that showcased SFBJV's featured projects with their respective images, whereas in the previous design, there wasn't any kind of layout used, the project images varied in size, and the text alignment also varied. What resulted was a sleek, branded, and easily scannable document. Last year's fact sheet is pictured at the bottom of the page for comparison.
